Applying to be a Resident Assistant (RA) involves more than completing an application and interviewing; applying is a process. While the position comes with great rewards, it also can be demanding at times. Our application process is designed not only to ensure that we get the best candidates for the position, but also to provide the opportunity to make sure the RA position is the best fit for you.

RA Housing Scholarship with a Housing stipend.  Working at the front desk, leadership experience, training and mentoring, affiliation with a team of student leaders, opportunity to help other students grow and shape their college experience.

 

 

 

 

 

RA Qualifications/Requirements

    • Must have 15 credit hours completed (1 full semester if you are a transfer student).
    • Must be a full-time student enrolled in 12 credit hours.
    • Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
    • Must submit A letters of recommendation (Cannot be from a current resident assistant or building director).
    • May not have another University funded on-campus job.
    • Outside employment and/or extra-curricular activities must not interfere with this position.
    • Good judicial and financial standings.
    • Must be willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
    • Must attend an Information Session.

 

RA Job Description

There are several basic expectations of Resident Assistants. These expectations are essential to their fostering of individual and group development for the students and for whom they are responsible.

    • Resident Assistants must present themselves as positive role models since their own behavior often influences the behavior of students.
    • They must be knowledgeable about, help enforce, and personally abide by all University rules and regulations as well as state and federal laws.
    • They must have a working knowledge of all aspects of the University so that they can appropriately mediate for, assist, advice, and be a liaison between students and other members of the University community.
    • They must have the emotional maturity necessary to cope with the daily decisions involved in working with their living units and promoting satisfactory living conditions within the units.
    • They must have sensitivity and concern for others as individuals and a personal commitment that may extend beyond specific RA responsibilities and demonstrate a professional attitude.
    • Finally, they must be committed to their own personal growth, taking care to budget time for study, work, and relaxation.
