Dr. Revathi Hines

Dr. Revathi (Reva) Hines is an Alphonse Jackson Professor of Political Science at Southern University and A & M College, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is an Interdisciplinary Research Leader Cohort I, Alumni. As a IRL fellow, she has conducted research exploring the links between health and housing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She also holds certification in Narrative Therapy and in Community Storytelling. She is keenly interested in utilizing storytelling as a conduit for empowerment and resiliency among marginalized groups in her community through an equity lens. Her research interests include examining inequities among marginalized populations and the intersectionality of race, gender, and class on a variety of social and policy issues and its politicization. She has published in the areas of equity, environmental racism and health, environmental justice movements and mobilizations, public housing, health and housing, disasters and its intersection with race, gender, and immigration and race.

In addition to her publications, she has presented at national and international conferences as well. She sits on various boards and commissions where her most recent is the reappointment by the Governor Edwards as a Commission Member on Louisiana Women’s Policy and Research Commission. She is also an Institutional Partner member to Mayor Broome’s Commission on Racial Equity and Inclusion; a Design Consultant Team Member for the Community Change Leadership Network, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee Member for the Interdisciplinary Research Leader Network. She is an academician, teacher, scholar, and community researcher and advocate. She is also the Founding President of Red Stick Bras and All Project, a non-profit organization that uses storytelling through an equity lens to address discrimination, stigma, and exclusion of our unhoused women in need in the Red Stick area.
