Message from the Department Chair

Welcome to the Department of Political Science and Geography. We are an academic unit housed within the Nelson Mandela College of Government and Social Sciences. The department has a long and storied history of producing graduates who have gone on to stellar achievements in graduate and professional school, academia, politics and government, and to successful careers in the private sector. Southern University and A&M College has been one of the most prolific producers of African Americans who have gone on to earn their Ph.D.'s in Political Science in the country. The Department of Political Science and Geography at Southern University prides itself on creating a nurturing, family-like atmosphere for its students. Prospective majors can expect to be exposed to challenging curricula, dynamic faculty, and to have access to internships, career, graduate and professional school counseling.
